Bundaberg CQU Chilled Water Infrastructure Upgrade

This current, ongoing project involves installing a 590kW Daikin air cooled chiller and underground chilled water infrastructure to connect Building 3 to the new chiller plant in Building 1. The project also includes main switchboard extensions, new mechanical switchboards, and the replacement of six DX units in Building 3 with chilled water AHUs ranging from 16kW to 96kW. Notably, this large-scale tender is being delivered in Bundaberg, showcasing our capacity to execute significant projects beyond our Cairns base.

Project Overview:

Essential Air Solutions is delivering a large-scale chilled water infrastructure upgrade for CQUniversity Bundaberg. This ambitious project involves the installation of a 590kW Daikin air-cooled chiller and the construction of underground chilled water infrastructure to connect Building 3 to the new chiller plant located in Building 1. Additionally, the project includes main switchboard extensions, new mechanical switchboards, and the replacement of six outdated DX units in Building 3 with advanced chilled water air handling units (AHUs) ranging from 16kW to 96kW.

Project Highlights:

  • Advanced Chilled Water System: The new Daikin air-cooled chiller ensures efficient, reliable cooling for the university’s operations, significantly enhancing energy efficiency and system performance.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades: The underground chilled water infrastructure connects multiple buildings, enabling centralised cooling capabilities and improving overall system integration.
  • Equipment Modernisation: Replacing six DX units with state-of-the-art chilled water AHUs optimises indoor climate control, meeting the university’s stringent requirements for comfort and efficiency.
  • Electrical Enhancements: Main switchboard extensions and new mechanical switchboards were designed and installed to support the increased system capacity.

Scope and Challenges:

Delivering this project in Bundaberg, far from our Cairns base, demonstrates Essential Air Solutions’ ability to manage and execute significant infrastructure projects across a wider geographical area. The scope of work required meticulous coordination to ensure timely delivery of materials, seamless integration of new systems, and minimal disruption to university operations.

Outcome:

This ongoing project showcases Essential Air Solutions’ expertise in designing and implementing large-scale HVAC solutions tailored to the unique requirements of educational institutions. Once completed, the upgraded chilled water infrastructure will provide enhanced cooling efficiency and reliability for CQUniversity Bundaberg, further cementing our reputation as a leader in commercial HVAC solutions.
