Lotus Glen Correctional Centre S13 HVAC Upgrade

We replaced four DX package units with chilled water AHUs, installed a new mechanical services switchboard, and modified ductwork to accommodate the new AHUs. The project was completed in a live prison facility, with strict security protocols in place. All materials were carefully coordinated in and out through secure pathways.

Project Overview:

Essential Air Solutions undertook the HVAC upgrade at the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre, a high-security facility, focusing on replacing and modernising critical air handling systems. This involved replacing four DX package units with advanced chilled water air handling units (AHUs) by AirDesign, installing a new mechanical services switchboard, and modifying existing ductwork to accommodate the upgraded AHUs.

Key Challenges:

Operating within a live correctional facility presented unique challenges, including stringent security protocols, limited site access, and the need for meticulous inventory management.

Planning and Execution:

To address these challenges, our team implemented the following strategies:

  • On-Site Container for Tools and Materials: A shipping container was positioned on-site to securely store all tools and materials required for the project. Each day, all items were carefully accounted for, logged, and returned to the container. No tools, equipment, or materials were permitted to be left unsecured on-site, ensuring compliance with the prison’s security regulations.
  • Secure Pathways for Material Coordination: All materials were transported in and out of the facility through secure, approved pathways under the supervision of prison staff. This ensured safety and minimised disruptions to the facility’s operations.
  • Phased Installation: The project was executed in a phased manner to maintain continuous operation of the existing systems, ensuring the facility remained functional throughout the upgrade process.
  • Adherence to Security Protocols: All team members underwent security clearances and adhered to strict guidelines, including working under close supervision and following designated access routes.

Outcome:

The HVAC upgrade at the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre was completed successfully, enhancing the facility’s climate control capabilities while adhering to the highest security standards. The new chilled water AHUs delivered improved energy efficiency, reliability, and performance, aligning with the centre’s operational requirements.

This project showcased Essential Air Solutions’ ability to deliver complex HVAC solutions in highly regulated and secure environments, highlighting our commitment to precision, planning, and excellence.
